Lag

When you are racing online, lag, or as some call it, warp, becomes a factor sometimes due to people's connections. When you are racing, your PC has to send and recieve data constantly for the duration of the race, sometimes some races are as long as 2 hours, so having a perfect no warp connection during those 2 hours are very rare. What causes warp is the quality of your internet connection. Dropped packets of data are what causes cars to shimmer and blink out then re-appear on another part of the race track. Whats so bad about that? Well, when you are racing just feet apart, there is no room for error, on the drivers part or on your connections part. When a car warps, chances are the car will re-appear in a bad place for the other drivers, causing a crash most of the time. Racers on dialup connections are more prone to warp bcause of their low bandwith connections. The picture above demonstrates warp. The driver of the 20 car spun out, then warped, and re-appeared right where u see it, right into the 51 car. Thats a worse case scenario, but you can see why warp is really bad.
